Porzingis gets $158M max contract from Mavericks
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Kristaps Porzingis is getting paid.

Porzingis and the Dallas Mavericks agreed to a five-year, $158 million contract, marking the largest contract in franchise history.

This deal should come as no surprise, as it was likely agreed upon when the Mavericks first acquired Kristaps in their trade with the New York Knicks. Porzingis probably would not have agreed to such a trade without that assurance, and the Mavericks wouldn’t have given up two future first-round picks if they didn’t plan to sign him long-term.

Porzingis missed all of last season as he recovered from a torn ACL, but he should be good to go next season. He will team with reigning Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic on an emerging Dallas squad that will be playing without Dirk Nowitzki for the first time since 1999.
