Former Alabama star Labaron Philon Jr. has officially signed his rookie scale contract with the Sixers, according to the NBA’s transaction log. The 6’4″ guard was selected 22nd overall by the 76ers, who acquired the rights to that pick from Oklahoma City in February’s Jared McCain trade.

Philon is coming off a breakout sophomore season with the Crimson Tide in which he averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals on .501/.399/.798 shooting splits in 33 games (30.9 minutes per contest). Assuming he received the standard 120% of his rookie scale amount, the 20-year-old will earn $3.6MM in 2026/27 and up to $17.8MM over the next four seasons.

Mike Gansey, Philadelphia’s new president of basketball operations, said the team wasn’t expecting Philon to still be available at No. 22 shortly after the draft.

He was pretty high on our board,” Gansey said. “We were surprised he was there. He’s dynamic. He can play on or off the ball. He can score, and he can pass. He was the focal point of Alabama’s offense, and they played in the SEC, so he was playing against great athletes every night. He plays with an edge and a swag. He plays with some toughness.”

Philon figures to battle for playing time in a Sixers backcourt that will also feature Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Anfernee Simons.
