In the absence of LeBron James to start the 2025-26 NBA season, Austin Reaves has stepped up as the Los Angeles Lakers' second scoring option behind Luka Doncic. When Doncic was sidelined for three straight games recently, Reaves even took over to keep the Purple and Gold afloat.
Reaves is now averaging 31.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He's also shooting 48.9% overall from the field and 34.9% from 3-point range.
However, the 27-year-old guard has missed the Lakers' last three games due to a right groin strain. While L.A. has gone 2-1 in those contests, there's no denying that the team misses his production.
In their 122-102 blowout loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, only Doncic scored more than 20 points for the Lakers, finishing with 22.
The good news for the Lakers is that Reaves appears to be trending in the right direction in his recovery. In fact, there's a chance he could suit up on Monday when they play the Charlotte Hornets.
In their latest injury report, the Lakers listed Reaves as "Questionable" for the game.

The latest development on Reaves aligns with head coach JJ Redick's statement on Saturday.
Before their showdown with the Hawks, Redick stated that Reaves is close to returning and could suit up during their five-game road trip.
"Given the fact that his pain is low, I would expect him to be back at some point on this trip," Redick said.
After the Hornets, the Lakers visit the Oklahoma City Thunder, New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks.
