Rui Hachimura played his part in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 125-101 win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. The 6-foot-8 power forward helped lead the Lakers to their first victory in four games with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, four rebounds, an assist, two steals and two triples in 26 minutes of action.
Hachimura, however, is now dealing with what appears to be a new injury. This has significantly impacted the 27-year-old’s status for L.A.’s next game, which comes in the form of a matchup against the 24-8 Detroit Pistons, the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference, on Tuesday night.
Hachimura missed two straight games for the Lakers right before Christmas due to a groin injury. He returned on Dec. 25 and played in his second game on Sunday.
Hachimura has been a key piece for the Lakers this season, locking in the starting PF spot. In 27 starts in 2025-26, the former No. 9 overall pick has averaged 12.7 points on 52.1% shooting, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 triples in 32.5 minutes per contest.
Hachimura, however, is set for another injury absence. The Lakers announced on Monday via the official injury report that the former Gonzaga Bulldogs star will not play against the Pistons on Tuesday. Hachimura has been ruled out due to a sore right calf.
The Lakers have not provided the full details of Hachimura’s injury, but the fact that he has been listed as out more than 24 hours before the game could be a cause for concern.
L.A. will be down two starters against the Pistons as Austin Reaves continues to nurse an aggravated calf injury. Gabe Vincent also remains out with a lumbar back strain.
Hachimura’s next chance to suit up will be on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies, but his status for that one is currently up in the air, at least until the Lakers are able to provide a substantial update on his calf issue.
The Lakers play at home on Tuesday against Detroit. Tip-off from Crypto.com Arena is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.
