The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the NBA’s best teams early in the 2025–26 season, currently owning a 19–7 record. While superstar guard Luka Doncic has been playing at an MVP level, he has benefited from consistent production around him from key role players.

One of them is starting power forward Rui Hachimura, who is in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career. Through 25 games, the 27-year-old has been incredibly efficient, averaging 13.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists while shooting 53.5% from the field and 45.6% from beyond the arc. He has also provided steady defense, making himself a valuable contributor on both ends of the floor.

Ahead of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers , Hachimura appeared on the injury report with a groin issue. The setback was enough to rule him out hours before tip-off, immediately raising concern for a Lakers team already shorthanded with shooting guard Austin Reaves and center Deandre Ayton also sidelined.

Head coach JJ Redick offered clarity on Saturday, explaining that Hachimura suffered the injury Thursday on the road against the Utah Jazz and later felt discomfort. Redick shared that "the hope" is for Hachimura to return within three to five days (h/t Dave McMenamin of ESPN).

That timeline suggests he could be available as soon as Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns, with Thursday’s matchup against the Houston Rockets serving as a realistic fallback if his recovery takes longer.

Hachimura has spent the past four seasons in Los Angeles, carving out a role as a reliable complementary piece alongside the team’s superstars. Originally drafted ninth overall by the Washington Wizards in 2019, he has developed into a versatile forward known for his efficient scoring, ability to stretch the floor and willingness to defend multiple positions. His blend of size, shooting touch and defensive effort has made him a trusted option in the Lakers’ rotation.

While the groin injury is a temporary setback, the Lakers are optimistic that Hachimura’s absence will be brief, allowing him to quickly return to the form that has made him such an important part of their early-season success.
