Lakers Announce Unfortunate News Before Clippers Game

The Los Angeles Lakers are 12-4 after a close 108-106 win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

Luka Doncic had 33 points with 11 rebounds, Austin Reaves had 22 points with 10 rebounds, and LeBron James had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds in a well-rounded game by LA.

Lakers center Deandre Ayton played just 13 minutes, scoring two points with three rebounds. The former Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers big man suffered a knee injury and left the game early.

On Monday, the Lakers then signed former Gonzaga standout Drew Timme to a two-way deal, potentially hinting at an extended absence for Ayton.

Timme was with the South Bay Lakers, and the corresponding move was big man Christian Koloko being waived.

Shortly after, the Lakers officially ruled Ayton out for the game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.

"Deandre Ayton is out Tuesday against the Clippers, the Lakers say."

Ayton signed a one-year deal in the offseason and is averaging 15.5 points per game with 8.4 rebounds this season.

Koloko played in just two games this season and for just over six minutes combined, so it's not a notable loss for LA.

Timme is averaging 25.5 points with 7.5 rebounds in six games with South Bay, so it could be an opportunity for the former Gonzaga star to see some extended run with Ayton dealing with an injury.

The Lakers face the Clippers on Tuesday night, then play the Dallas Mavericks on Friday and the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, all at home, to end the month of November.
