The Lakers have some work to do. That much is clear after a second-round exit and a roster that still feels a piece or two away.
Finding the right fit next to Luka Doncic will be priority No. 1. A lob threat. A reliable three-and-D wing. Maybe both.
One name starting to surface is Peyton Watson.
According to Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints, Watson could be among the more sought-after free agents after a breakout season with Denver. And if the Lakers can make it work financially, he’s the type of player who checks a lot of boxes.
Watson, 23, took a major step forward in 2025-26. Known early for his defense and length, he added offense to the mix, averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 0.9 steals. He also showed he could carry more of a scoring load during stretches when Nikola Jokić was sidelined.
That versatility is what makes him intriguing.
He defends. He runs. He’s starting to shoot it. And at 6-foot-8, he fits the mold of the modern wing every contender seems to be chasing.
Of course, the Lakers won’t be alone. Denver has every reason to try to keep him, and there will be other teams lining up with interest.
Still, the fit is easy to see. The question is whether Los Angeles can actually make it happen.
