Lakers’ Deandre Ayton gets real on Thunder’s playoff atmosphere

With the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, there’s no denying that the atmosphere in each arena will be electric. As some could predict for the Thunder to destroy the Lakers in the playoffs, each team is not taking each other lightly, especially Los Angeles, as Deandre Ayton speaks about a key area with Oklahoma City.

Ahead of Game 1 on Tuesday, Ayyon would speak on Oklahoma City and how Paycom Center is going to be “thunderous,” with even the Lakers center saying that the team’s name is fitting.

“You can’t hear yourself. It’s definitely the ‘Thunder’ for a reason,” Ayton said, via Dave McMenamin. “Their fans are thunderous. You can hear the floor shaking, the bleachers, you can’t even hear a play call. You got to be super dialed in. They’re the defending champs, and, you know, their fans been in atmospheres and, you know, hype games. And, you know, they’re ready for their team to do their thing. So we just gotta come in super prepared and just dial out all the noise and just come there and play together.”

Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander isn’t taking the Lakers lightly

Though the Thunder are favored to take down the Lakers, especially since the team continues to miss Luka Doncic as his status remains uncertain, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander isn’t taking it as a cake walk.

“They’re playing really well right now, regardless of who’s out there,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, via Rylan Stiles. “They’re well-coached. LeBron [James] has been in this situation — this level of games — more than anybody else in the NBA. We don’t take them lightly. To make it this far in the season, you can get beaten by anybody on any given night. We know, going into this matchup, we have to take them seriously. We’ve got to put our best foot forward.”

At any rate, Gilgeous-Alexander has the right mindset heading into the series with Oklahoma City looking for its second straight championship as the team seems unstoppable after sweeping the Phoenix Suns in the first round.
