The two years were already added on to the remaining three on his initial contract — thus putting Redick on the books for the next five seasons through the 2029-30 season. As ESPN basketball guru Shams Charania reported on television, Redick is set to make $45 million over the duration of the deal.

There are a couple of ways to look at this. For one, the franchise is clearly seeking stability. Locking up Luka Doncic this past summer was a sign that the team is going all-in on making the Slovenian star the face of the franchise.
Adding to that is the decision to keep Redick on the sidelines.
Redick and Doncic seem to have a strong rapport with one another, and the ex-NBA player endeared himself to the fanbase very well this past season in what was his first as a head coach.
Redick mentioned that “it’s not lost on me, the sort of rarity of a first-time head coach getting an extension. Like, I recognize how fortunate I am to be with an organization that supports me that way.”

Redick surprised plenty of people when engineering a top-three finish in the rugged Western Conference last season. Even with the team heavily transitioning after the Doncic-Anthony Davis blockbuster deal, the Lakers had stretches where they were not only an elite defensive team, but one of the top teams in the league.
Ultimately, a lack of depth up front was the team's downfall. Redick himself went through some criticism after failing to utilize his bench throughout much of the series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Redick was always lauded as a very smart player. That acumen shone brightly as a media personality on various channels and platforms. Now with a year of head coaching under his belt, there's still plenty of room for growth and improvement moving forward.
With Doncic and Redick locked-in for the foreseeable future, the Lakers now will be tasked with wading into the waters of a possible LeBron James retirement as well as the future surrounding Austin Reaves.
