Lakers' LeBron James out Tuesday vs. Knicks to rest ankle

The latest comeback of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will have to wait.

Stories emerged Monday that James would return from lingering setbacks linked with a previous ankle injury for Tuesday's home game against the New York Knicks. That won't be the case, though, as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin reported on Tuesday afternoon that James will rest the ankle at least one more night and will now look to play in Wednesday's showdown with the Houston Rockets.

James first suffered a high ankle sprain on March 20 and missed six weeks of action but returned to the lineup on April 30. However, he aggravated the injury his second game back on May 2 and hasn't played since.

The Lakers will head into Tuesday evening at 38-30 overall and in seventh place in the Western Conference standings, 1.5 games behind the Portland Trail Blazers in the race to avoid the play-in tournament. Los Angeles has four regular-season contests left on the schedule and would face the Golden State Warriors in a 7-8 play-in matchup if the tournament started tonight.
