Bronny James is steadily carving out his role in his second NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, splitting time between the NBA and the G League as he develops his game. Selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, James has entered the league carrying the dual expectations of living up to his pedigree as LeBron James’ son while establishing himself as an NBA contributor in his own right.
James made his first start of the 2025-26 season on Nov. 15 against the Milwaukee Bucks. He played limited minutes in that game and recorded no points, though he contributed in other areas of the court. Shortly afterward, the Lakers assigned him to their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, to gain more consistent playing time and continue his development.
In the G League, James has shown flashes of the potential that earned him a draft selection. His per-game averages this season in the G League sit at 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, and eight assists in two games, reflecting his ability to contribute across multiple areas. These stints have provided James with the opportunity to refine his shooting, decision-making, and overall game.
On Tuesday, the Lakers recalled James, along with forward Adou Thiero, ahead of a home matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers at Crypto.com Arena. James is expected to come off the bench, providing depth in the guard rotation behind the Lakers’ veteran core.

During his rookie 2024-25 season, James appeared in 27 games and made one start, in the regular-season finale against the Portland Trail Blazers. In that outing, he logged four points, six assists, three rebounds, and four steals in 38 minutes, demonstrating his capacity to impact the game when given extended playing time. Over 11 G League regular season games last season, he averaged 21.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, and showed some progress in his first professional year.
While still in the early stages of his career, James’ combination of pedigree, skill, and early professional experience suggests he could grow into a reliable contributor in Los Angeles’ rotation over the coming seasons.
