Lakers reportedly reached out to Kings about potential Buddy Hield trade

The Los Angeles Lakers are 24-25 and sit ninth in the Western Conference.

By all accounts, the team wants to be active heading into the February NBA trade deadline.

Unfortunately, they just don’t have the assets necessary to be a legit player for the guys they want.

Case in point: Buddy Hield.

L.A. came very close to acquiring Hield this past offseason. So close, in fact, that he thought it was a done deal. But at the last moment, the Lakers opted to use the assets they were going to use on Hield on Russell Westbrook instead.

We all know how that turned out.

This week, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that the Lakers recently made another attempt to acquire Hield.

“League sources have told me the Lakers reached out to the Kings about a Talen Horton-Tucker package for Buddy Hield,” Haynes said.

“Still trying to make that happen. Obviously, the Kings are like, ‘No. We feel like there’s more lucrative deals out there.’ The Kings are going to be active. They’ve got a whole bunch of people calling them.”

That sounds about right.

L.A. has two weeks to go before the trade deadline. The front office has been linked to one minor trade and two "realistic" role players, but nothing more significant than that.

And now, it feels like a potential trade for Hield is a nonstarter.

Where will the Lakers ultimately go from here? Time will tell.
