Lakers Reportedly Targeting Valanciunas After Finney-Smith Deal

Fresh off landing Dorian Finney-Smith, the Lakers are considering yet another major deal before the February deadline. According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, Los Angeles has shifted its focus to the center position, with Jonas Valanciunas emerging as their primary target to provide aid to an overworked Anthony Davis.

"Having acquired the wing defender they sought in Finney-Smith, the next item for the Lakers on their list is a backup center... The Lakers will continue to try and acquire Wizards center Jonas Valanciunas or another backup center on the trade market with their remaining future second-round draft capital..."

Even after sending three second-round picks (2027, 2030, 2032) to Brooklyn in the Finney-Smith deal, the Lakers maintain some draft flexibility. They still hold two 2025 second-rounders - their own and one from the Clippers - along with their valuable 2029 and 2031 first-round picks.

In fact, Gabe Vincent's $11 million salary could prove to be the crucial piece in making the money work. While there's been speculation about his future ahead of the February 6 trade deadline, his contract might be the key to unlocking another significant move.

The Lakers' interest in adding another big man to aid Davis isn't news to anyone who's been following the team this season. Valanciunas has been on their radar since free agency, with LeBron James reportedly high on the Lithuanian center. With Washington clearly in rebuild mode, the timing might finally be right for a deal.
