Lakers still likely keeping tabs on Heat’s Andrew Wiggins

The Lakers are starting to think bigger.

After Luka Doncic’s EuroBasket run and his three-year extension with Los Angeles, the front office is re-evaluating how aggressive it wants to be on the trade market. The Athletic’s Dan Woike reported that the team’s stance on adding long-term money has shifted, opening the door for names that weren’t being considered earlier this summer.

Enter Heat forward Andrew Wiggins.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line noted recently that Wiggins is the type of two-way wing the Lakers could have interest in if he becomes available.

Wiggins, 30, makes $28.2 million this season and holds a $30.2 million option for 2026-27. He averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists last year between Golden State and Miami while shooting 37.4 percent from deep.

For now, the Heat are planning to keep him. Coach Erik Spoelstra even said in Las Vegas that Wiggins is already working out in Miami and getting settled with his family. But if Miami shifts toward financial flexibility, the Lakers could pounce.

Doncic looks locked in. The Lakers have short-term deals they can package. And they’re seemingly making it clear wings like Wiggins are very much on their radar.
