Lakers to give Avery Bradley championship ring if they win NBA title

Although Avery Bradley opted out of the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season at Walt Disney World in Orlando, he'll still be able to celebrate with the team if they win the championship. 

The Los Angeles Lakers plan to award Bradley with a championship ring if the franchise is able to win their 17th NBA title. 

"Yes, [Lakers general manager] Rob Pelinka made me aware of the Lakers offering me a ring if they win the championship," Bradley told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday. "It’s a very kind gesture on their part."

Bradley opted out of the season resumption in Orlando because of health concerns related to his six-year-old son. As of Wednesday, he remains the only player on a championship-contending team to opt out. 

Before the season was halted due to the coronavirus, Bradley was averaging 8.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The Lakers will replace him with J.R. Smith, who hasn't played a full NBA season since the 2017-18 campaign. 

Bradley has never won a title in his 10-year career and still isn't sure if he'll accept the ring, provided the Lakers win the championship. 

"Will I accept the ring? I’m neither here nor there about it," Bradley told Yahoo Sports. "I am 10 years in this league. The physical possession of a ring doesn’t make me feel like more or less of a person. I play basketball strictly for enjoyment and to add to the support of my family. Supporting them is exactly what I’m doing right now."

The Lakers will be back in business on July 30 against the Clippers, and they'll be looking to hold onto their first place spot in the Western Conference.
