Last Two Minute Report finds five missed calls hurt Warriors in overtime

Boston pulled away from Golden State with an 8-0 run during overtime, but the NBA's review of the final two minutes of OT suggests the Warriors were disadvantaged during that stretch. With Boston up 115-111, the referees missed a defensive three seconds violation on Jayson Tatum, as well as a Malcolm Brogdon foul on Jordan Poole that was ruled a clean block in real-time.

The NBA puts out a report analyzing all the calls in the final two minutes if a game is within three points during that stretch. They ruled that the officials missed an offensive three seconds call on Al Horford. It should have been a turnover. Instead, Jayson Tatum hit a three-pointer to give Boston a seven-point lead.

After two Curry free throws ended the Boston run, Klay Thompson picked up his sixth foul while knocking the ball away from Jaylen Brown. Brown made a free throw, and Thompson had to leave the game.

Finally, with 6.3 seconds left, the referees missed a 24-second violation, when Horford released the ball too late. Instead of getting the ball to the side with 6.3 left, the Warriors got the ball under the basket with three seconds left and had to settle for a half court prayer. Though the referees did miss that Andrew Wiggins knocked the ball out of bounds after the miss.

The Warriors weren't blaming the officials for the loss, the 14th time they've lost in their last 16 overtime contests. Steve Kerr blamed the "defensive breakdown" that led to the team giving up Brown's game-tying three in regulation. And when a team is 5-18 on the road like the Warriors are, it's hard to expect to get the benefit of the doubt in close games away from home.

Still, the Last Two Minute Report remains a mystery. Why does it even exist? Do referees ever call three seconds in crunch time? Will the Warriors get an apology and a gift card for the NBA Store?

It may be unknowable. Just like the reason the Warriors can only win in regulation.
