The Warriors and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga still have no deal, and training camp is almost here.
According to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area, Kuminga continues to view the $7.9 million qualifying offer as his most attractive option. That would allow him to play out the season and hit unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Golden State has offered about two years and $45 million, with the catch being a team option on the second season. Kuminga’s camp wants that option in the player’s hands, and so far neither side has blinked.
If Kuminga signs the QO, the risk is obvious. One injury or a reduced role under Steve Kerr could knock his value down. But the Warriors may have more to lose.
The QO would come with a no-trade clause next season and wipe away their Bird rights, meaning they could watch him walk with no return.
The Kings and Suns reportedly tried to get involved through sign-and-trade talks earlier this summer, but Golden State turned them away. The Warriors appear intent on keeping Kuminga, just not on the terms he wants.
Meanwhile, the stalemate has put the rest of the roster on hold. Golden State is sitting at nine standard contracts, only seven of them fully guaranteed, with one two-way slot filled and two draft picks still unsigned. Until the Kuminga situation is resolved, it appears the Warriors are stuck.
