Quentin Grimes had an impressive second half of the 2024-25 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. He looks to be a fantastic player within the system, which warrants an extension for him with the team.
The Philadelphia 76ers had a challenging 2024-25 season, but they did have some bright spots. One of those was Quentin Grimes, a player they acquired in February 2025. He was impressive, scoring 21.9 points per game across 28 games played for the 76ers.
Based on his performance, the 76ers should be eager to offer him an extension. Unfortunately, the talks have stalled, but the organization still has a strong chance of retaining him. Grimes is a restricted free agent, so Philadelphia will always have an opportunity to get him back.
It would be great for the 76ers to secure his signature, as he could attract offers from around the league. They can match any offer, but it would be best to get the deal on their terms.
The 76ers have done well with their talented players, as they will have Jared McCain and Joel Embiid again. They also have rookie V.J. Edgecombe looking to prove himself ahead of his first season.
Grimes should have natural chemistry with all the 76ers players. The organization needs to pay him, as he is a priority for the team. Even though his position is unclear when everyone is healthy, he will be a great asset. Coach Nick Nurse knows how to balance his roster, so Grimes would keep shining.
According to league sources and The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, Grimes and the 76ers have not moved on negotiations. This might worry the 76ers, but both parties are hoping to resolve the situation in the upcoming week.
I actually feel bad for Jonathan Kuminga, Josh Giddey, Cam Thomas and Quentin Grimes. Absolutely dreadful time to be an NBA restricted free agent. I wonder how many summers in league history had as little cap space to go around.

Retaining Grimes is key to the 76ers’ future, as he was an impressive player. The 76ers would love to stockpile as much talent as possible, and Grimes is one of their top players. Philadelphia might surprise people, as they have the potential to be a top Eastern Conference team again.
Most people’s eyes are on the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers for the Eastern Conference’s top spot. They deserve the hype as the current top teams in the East. However, people won’t expect the 76ers to make some noise in the 2025-26 season.
Embiid might not be perfectly healthy, but he will still produce at a high level. McCain wants to follow up on his promising rookie campaign. Tyrese Maxey wants to maintain his All-Star form, and Paul George is ready to redeem himself.

One of these guys is getting 33+ mill a year and was the main piece in a Kevin Durant deal, the other guy doesn't have an active market?
This Philadelphia roster is better than many fans think. If the Knicks and Cavaliers struggle, the 76ers could capitalize. To do that, they must keep their roster healthy and maintain their depth. With Grimes on the roster and a new contract, the 76ers can continue this positive path.
