LeBron James is returning to the NBA for the 2026-27 season. But he won't be back with the Lakers.

The four-time NBA champion has confirmed to ESPN insider Shams Charania that he will be returning for next season. However, he has told the Lakers that they can move on without him. He will be playing for a new team next year.

"LeBron James will continue his NBA career for the 2026-27 season and has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that the franchise can move on without him because he will play elsewhere, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN," Charania reported on Tuesday afternoon.

LeBron, who has played for the Lakers since 2018, will be heading to another NBA franchise. LeBron has previously played for the Cavs and Heat. He's had two different stops in Cleveland.

While some have speculated that a return to Cleveland could happen, it sounds like Golden State is the likely frontrunner.

Warriors are pursuing LeBron, Anthony Davis

Yahoo! Sports confirmed that the Warriors are pursuing both LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

"The Warriors are attempting to trade for Wizards big Anthony Davis and then sign Lakers free-agent forward LeBron James, according to multiple league sources," Kevin O'Connor reported.

"A trade for Davis would have to include Jimmy Butler , who is on an expiring $57 million contract while recovering from a torn ACL. The Warriors would also have to include draft capital — they have two future firsts and four first-round swaps to work with in any deal."

Davis, who currently plays for the Wizards, could be on the move soon, as well, as Golden State gears up for a big run at LeBron.
