Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has broken another Michael Jordan record.
According to HoopsHype, James is the oldest player in NBA history to receive an MVP vote, breaking Jordan’s 23-year-old record.
“In finishing sixth in the MVP vote this season, LeBron James has beaten another Michael Jordan record, becoming the oldest player in NBA history to earn MVP votes. At 40 years old, he’s 13 months older than Jordan was when he finished 13th while playing for the Wizards in 2001-02,” HoopsHype wrote.
“James now holds the distinction of being both the oldest and youngest player in NBA history to receive MVP votes. He also easily owns the record for the largest time gap between first and last MVP votes at 21 years. Tim Duncan ranks second in this category with a 17-year difference.”
The Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of this year’s playoffs in five games. James, 40, averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks in the five-game series.
James is the oldest active player in the NBA. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks for the Lakers during the regular season in 70 games.
James has a player option to return to the Lakers next season. The NBA legend can pick up his player option, decline it and become an unrestricted free agent or retire.
Jordan spent most of his career with the Chicago Bulls. He went 6-0 in the NBA Finals while winning five MVPs, six Finals MVPs, 10 scoring titles, three steals titles and one Defensive Player of the Year Award.
James has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers. He’s 4-6 in the NBA Finals. The Akron native is a four-time MVP, a four-time Finals MVP, a one-time scoring champion and a one-time assists champion.
Jordan is first in NBA history in points per game in the regular season and postseason. He also holds the record for most points scored (63) in a postseason game. The Hall of Famer averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 1,072 games with the Bulls and Washington Wizards.
James, who grew up idolizing Jordan, is first in NBA history in points. He’s the only player to rank top five all-time in points and assists. The future Hall of Famer has career averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists.
