LeBron James confuses fans with social media post in Spanish

LeBron James appears to be embracing his jugador de baloncesto era.

The Los Angeles Lakers star James confused many fans on Thursday with his latest social media post. James’ post was written entirely in Spanish and came largely without any context.

“¡Benito!” James’ post read. “Estoy en el aeropuerto de Los Ángeles ahora mismo, ¡voy a verte! Me enteré de lo que tienes planeado para mañana por la noche. LFG!”

That loosely translates to, “Benito! I’m at Los Angeles airport right now, I’m coming to see you! I heard about what you have planned for tomorrow night. Let’s go!”

Social media sleuths quickly figured out that James was talking about famous Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny (whose real name is Benito Ocasio). The two men share a close friendship, and Bad Bunny was even in attendance when James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record in 2023.

Bad Bunny is kicking off a concert residency in his native Puerto Rico with the first show set for Friday, July 11. It sounds like James is planning to be in attendance as the “Dakiti” hitmaker inaugurates his residency.

At 31 years old, Bad Bunny has also made an impact in the world of Major League Baseball (though a bit more problematically so). But getting the four-time NBA champion James to bust out the Spanish (or at least the Google Translate) might be one of Bad Bunny’s most impressive feats yet.
