LeBron James Had One Word for Steph Curry on Sunday

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry have perhaps more individual history than any two active NBA players. Meeting in the Finals every year from 2015 to 2018, the two basketball legends battled on the biggest stage, with Curry and the Warriors taking home three of those four titles.

While those Finals battles formed an on-court rivalry, they also produced a lot of mutual respect. Now, as James and Curry near the end of their respective Hall of Fame careers, an open friendship has been on display.

This was only strengthened when the two led USA Basketball to a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Steph Curry and LeBron James' Olympic Chemistry Fueled Rumors of NBA Team-Up

James and Curry were Team USA’s top-two leading scorers at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While James earned tournament MVP honors, Curry led the team in scoring after erupting for 60 total points in the semifinal win over Serbia and gold medal victory against France.

Curry ended the run averaging 14.8 points, while James was close behind at 14.2 — also leading the team with 8.5 assists and 6.8 rebounds. The chemistry between these two reignited rumors that an NBA team-up could be in their future. This hypothetical scenario gained so much steam, that ESPN's Bobby Marks outlined potential framework during a segment of NBA Today that summer.

LeBron James, Steph Curry Share Exchange on Sunday

Curry has since stayed in Golden State while James remains in Los Angeles, but that has not stopped the two from looking back on their Olympic partnership.

Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of Team USA's gold medal win over France. Reflecting on that run, Curry made a post on Instagram that included 19 photos from his time in Paris. He added the following caption:

"A year ago, today. We did that! Loved hooping with my guys, representing our country, and bringing home the . Memories for a lifetime. Avengers forever."

Curry's post reached nearly 500,000 likes just three hours, tallying close to 3,000 comments in that same span. Among those to drop a message was James himself.

"Yessir!!!!!" he exclaimed.

LeBron James Remains Linked to Golden State Warriors

While a James-Curry NBA team-up is unlikely, rumors have continued to persist since Golden State attempted to acquire the Lakers star in 2024. Last month, The Athletic floated the Warriors as a potential landing spot for James should he be traded this offseason.

"James is close with two-time MVP Stephen Curry, with whom he finally played last summer, when the couple paired up at the Olympics," the article read. "He and former Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green share an agent. He played for head coach Steve Kerr with Team USA. And the Warriors have the lure of … well, the Warriors."

In 2024, ESPN reported the Warriors called Los Angeles about James' availability. Talks were shut down by the star forward and his agency, but that has not stopped fans and media members from continuing to dream about a James-Curry pairing before the two legends retire.
