There might be a lot of noise about whether LeBron James is still fit for the elite level of the NBA at 41. But a glance at his relentless performance year after year is enough to speak volumes about his potential. And maybe that is why the Los Angeles Lakers have decided against trading James anytime soon. Making a strong case for himself further, the 4-time NBA champion is now level with Magic Johnson.
As his team triumphed over the Los Angeles Clippers 125-122, the 41-year-old seemingly did not have an impressive game. Dropping only 13 points, he let Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic do the talking.
However, a closer look reveals that James did have a significant impact on the game, recording 11 assists. And it was this very stat that made him sit on level pegging with another Lakers legend, Magic Johnson. King James joined Johnson as the second in Lakers’ history to hit 10 assists in more than four consecutive games.
“Per Lakers: With his 10th assist tonight vs. the Clippers, LeBron James recorded his fifth straight game with 10 or more assists, the fifth such streak of his career and his first since January 2020. He joins Magic Johnson as the only players in Lakers history with four or more such streaks for the franchise,” read an X post from Ryan Ward.

Well, creating new records is not something new for James. But as the Akron-born will be looking to take the Lakers to a championship run this season, a possibility of him achieving a financial milestone has surfaced recently.
According to Forbes’ 2025 list, the Lakers’ legend ranked 6th with $133.8 million in earnings. But as rumors about him joining the Cleveland Cavaliers have surfaced, things might change rapidly.
According to a report from Anthony Lima, “I talked to a few execs in the media world about how much LeBron could get for the rights to his farewell tour in a streaming bidding war. Was told $40-75 million. So yes, he could play for vet minimum next year on a title contender and still get compensation for his value. Move over, Ronaldo, LeBron would be the highest-earning athlete in the world next season in Cleveland, Ohio.”

This is quite a bold claim. As of 2025, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo leads the list with $275 million in earnings.
Thus, as James continues to break barriers, at this point, it looks like his only competition is with himself.
