Now over the halfway point of the NBA season, LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers remains in question, and perhaps even retirement is on the table. There’s no telling what the future will hold, but James’ current focus is on trying to win a championship alongside Luka Doncic.

Once Doncic was brought to Los Angeles, he formed an intriguing tandem with James as they are two gifted passers using to playing on the ball. With more of a sample size playing next to each other, the Lakers have begun reaping the benefits of their pick-and-roll chemistry.

As the end inevitably inches closer, the 41-year-old needs to make every second count remaining in his career. He likes passing his knowledge forward to advance the NBA, so James is doing everything he can to make sure Doncic is ready to lead a historic franchise upon his departure as he has enjoyed playing with and getting to know him, via Melissa Rohlin of the California Post:

“Just trying to lead by example, showing him the way, using my voice, using my example, using everything I can,” James told the California Post. “He’s now. It’s not like he’s next. He’s right now. I just love the kid. I love everything about him. I just want him to take his journey as far as he wants to go. And I’m happy to be a small part of his journey. Hopefully, he can take something from me.”

Fortunately, the Lakers seemingly always find a generational talent to lead them through various eras and Doncic is next in line. After sniffing a championship in 2024, the Slovenian guard is eager to get back to the Finals and win his first ring.

Leading a historic franchise with 17 titles is a massive responsibility, but the 26-year-old appears ready to take it on. James had to carry an organization in the Cleveland Cavaliers at 18-years-old and eventually brought a championship in 2016 during his second stint.

Now in his 23rd season, there is no better play to pick the brain of then the all-time leading scorer. Hopefully, Doncic can learn as much as possible while they are still teammates and that knowledge pays off in multiple banners for the Lakers.

LeBron James hasn’t though about retirement or farewell tour yet

Following an emotional return to Cleveland, James’ future in the NBA began to be questioned. No one knows whether this season will truly be his last and an assumption can be made that LeBron would like a farewell tour before calling it a career.

Speculation remains high, but the four-time champion admitted that he has not thought about retirement yet, so the basketball world continues to wait for official word on when he will hang it up.
