LeBron James recently confirmed his status as a fan of Luka Doncic. In the fourth episode of the fifth season of "The Shop: Uninterrupted" on June 10, James explained why Doncic is his favorite player in the league:
“His size. I mean he’s gigantic. A 6-8 point guard. He’s 225 pounds. He has the ball on a string. And more importantly, his vision. That’s why I love him. He can control a game. He doesn’t even have to shoot. Literally, he’ll walk the ball up ten straight times and get to his spot every single time, just because of his pace.
He knows when he comes off a pick and roll if they’re hard showing or if they hedging or if they dropping the pick and roll. He knows I can turn the corner because I got this shoulder, and I know the third line of defense, when I get there, if I just slow down and use my pivots, not even jump, just the Euro one-two, this guy’s flying by every time. It’s the mind.”
Doncic’s recent stats resemble James’. Doncic averaged 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists in 35.4 minutes over 65 games last season, his fourth year in the league. James averaged 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and six assists in 40.9 minutes over 78 games in his fourth year in the NBA.

ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst believes James would like to play with Doncic. “Don’t ever judge LeBron 100 percent on his words, judge him on his actions. The best way you can see how LeBron feels about people is who he drafts in his All-Star draft. He has drafted Luka Doncic all three years he’s been an All-Star,” Windhorst explained on April 7.
James teaming up with Doncic is a longshot. The best chance of it happening would be James signing a minimum deal with the Mavericks if they draft Bronny James in 2024.
