There’s an ongoing meme within the NBA community where LeBron James is often the butt of the joke for his supposed inability to rap and remember lyrics from A to Z. However, King James continues to prove the world wrong, as he flawlessly delivered verse after verse of his friend Kendrick Lamar‘s lyrics on New Year’s Eve.
At 40, LeBron James hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. In a viral video, James can be seen reciting the lyrics word for word, verbatim, from Kendrick Lamar‘s newest trending track, “Man at the Garden.”
Holding his champagne in one hand, James took center stage at the party, jamming to Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar all night long. He danced with his wife and celebrated exuberantly by throwing money into the air.

LeBron James has always had a close bond with both mentioned rappers, and his love for rap music is unmistakable. From likening the back-and-forth between GSW and CLE to a rap beef to co-producing the documentary “How Music Got Free” with rap legend Eminem, he doesn’t shy away from expressing his enthusiasm as soon as a new record drops. We’ve all seen photos of LeBron practicing with his headphones blasting music—a clear testament to his passion for the genre.
Moreover, his friendship and close ties with Kendrick Lamar have caused a rift between him and Drake, who recently unfollowed the King on Instagram following his beef with the Cali rapper. However, LeBron has made it clear whose side he is on.
Any fan of LeBron James knows he frequently raps along to his favorite new artists on Instagram. From Nipsey Hussle to Eminem, LeBron has long been a follower and fan of the art of hip-hop. However, he became an ongoing meme after posting a story where he seemingly butchered the rap lyrics to the late Pop Smoke’s hit song For the Night.

Fans made fun of King James for not knowing the lyrics but continuing to rap regardless. Nonetheless, LeBron gave the up-and-coming artist a shoutout for his talent. Pop Smoke has also spoke highly of LeBron in the past, saying he’s the best player in the game and has been kind to other rappers.
Despite his admiration for the genre, LeBron has occasionally faltered. For instance, he once sang the wrong lyrics to 6lack’s Stay Down. Instead of “hoppin’ out the car, no photos, baby,” LeBron seemed to say, “yabadabadodobo Old Navy.” In response, 6lack humorously reacted, saying, “Maybe I wrote the lyrics wrong, and he’s the correct one.”
So, the fact that he was able to sing word for word of “Man at the Garden”, means a lot to NBA fans who been previously disappointed in him for not knowing the lyrics.
