LeBron James Reportedly Makes Decision on Lakers Future Ahead of 2025-26 NBA Season

For most of his career, every team that has employed Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has had to worry about him leaving for greener pastures.

He announced his departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat on national television, but then returned to his hometown team four years later.

Then, when the Cavaliers couldn’t provide James with talent that he viewed as adequate, he joined the Lakers in 2018.

The franchise has largely been exempt from having to worry about their superstar leaving, but now those talks are resurfacing at the twilight of his career.

Los Angeles sent one of James’ best friends, Anthony Davis, to the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Luka Doncic, and the relationship between him and the team has been rocky since.

The four-time champion reportedly is turned off by the fact that the Lakers seem to be building the team around Doncic and not valuing his input on decisions.

Despite all the drama, it was reported on Sunday that James likely will not leave the team unless a dream scenario arises.

The source, an NBA executive, made it a point to state that the 21-time All-Star doesn’t want to end his career like NBA Hall-of-Famer Michael Jordan, who was somewhat of a ceremonial player with the Washington Wizards.

This is good news for the Lakers, who know they have little to no chance of competing for a title this year without James on the roster.

Head coach JJ Redick agreed to a contract extension last week, so it seems like Los Angeles is content to move forward with the current core of the team.

It seems like they are safe from the prospect of James leaving for now, but they would be wise to continually improve, or they could risk his wandering eyes getting a good look at a better situation.
