It takes superhuman genetics to play 20-plus years in the NBA. And LeBron James is still going strong 23 years in. Sure, his numbers may have dipped a bit, but that’s to be expected. The bar has been set extremely high since he entered the league in 2003. It’s safe to say the goalposts have been moved countless times due to his longevity.
But with Luka Doncic in LA, LeBron’s remaining time with the team and/or his future have become a hot topic as of late. The Lakers seemingly want to retain him, but at a significantly reduced price. Does LBJ want to play for another team, or is he mulling over calling it quits at the end of the season? A new report suggests that nobody has a clue about his next move.
“There are people who think this could be it…that he didn’t want to deal with the headache of announcing it. Cleveland and Golden State are the two places where people talk about [LeBron James] landing. But if the Warriors landed [Giannis Antetokounmpo], then maybe he goes that way,” per Sam Amick.

“But he doesn’t know. He’s just going through with this thing. People who care about him a lot also don’t know what’s next,” he added.
If LBJ’s camp doesn’t know his intentions, then the media are in the dark as well. At this point, everybody is just guessing whether he will retire or jump to another team.
If this season truly is his last, maybe LBJ is open to announcing a farewell tour so fans can pay tribute to him one last time? Most legends have done it before. A player of LeBron James’ stature should deserve a send-off, right? Well…he’s not too keen on having one.
“That could bring some negatives with it if his body doesn’t cooperate, he goes to a city, everybody buys tickets, and he is unable to play. He doesn’t want that disappointment following him,” McMenamin wrote.
That’s a fair point coming from LeBron. He understands that the fans would want to see him play if this is his last year in the league. But he also doesn’t want to disappoint working-class folks who buy tickets only to miss him. It’s a fickle thing…and only James has the answer to all these questions.
