LeBron James shuts down trade rumors to the Cleveland Cavaliers with one post on social media

Since LeBron James opted into the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers—and reports surfaced that the team was looking toward the future—rumors have swirled that James could potentially be traded at some point.

James has spent the last seven seasons with the Lakers and previously played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice) and the Miami Heat. The idea of James suiting up for another franchise seems unusual, which is why some speculate he could make a return to Cleveland.

“He told me that he has not had any discussion with the Lakers about wanting a trade,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin said Monday night. “He did say that four teams have contacted him in the last 24 hours wanting to talk trades, but Rich didn’t have any substantive conversations with those teams, either.”

LeBron James quiets rumors after photo surfaces of him at Cleveland Cavaliers practice facility

James is no different than anyone else when it comes to sticking to a routine. The star forward often returns home to Northeast Ohio and trains at the Cavaliers’ practice facility during the offseason. NBA players are allowed to work out at any team’s facility in the offseason, regardless of their current team affiliation.

A recent photo of James training in Northeast Ohio went viral amid trade speculation, adding fuel to the rumor mill. But James took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation, explaining that he’s simply sticking to his usual offseason habits:

“And every summer since it was built. I live here still and train every summer. Got damn y’all bored man! Go get a plate of food somewhere and enjoy the 4th of July!”

Even if James were to be traded, it likely wouldn’t happen this quickly—perhaps closer to the start of the season or early in the campaign itself. For now, the rumors will persist and flare up over moments like this, even if James is doing nothing out of the ordinary during his offseason training.
