Even though Barack Obama has seemingly retired from politics, his influence still remains a big one in the world today. Proof of that was when Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James spoke positively about the former president before Team USA faced Canada in an exhibition game.
In an anticipated pre-Olympic exhibition, Team USA emerged victorious Canada with a final score of 86-72 . Despite a slow start and some uneven play, the star-studded American squad found their rhythm in the second quarter, led by standout performances from Anthony Edwards and Anthony Davis.
The game showcased the depth and talent of both teams, with Canada fielding a roster of current NBA players, including a 2023-24 MVP finalist in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. However, it was the experience and chemistry of the American side that ultimately prevailed, with head coach Steve Kerr tinkering with different lineup combinations to find the optimal fit.
While the game may have lacked the polish and cohesion expected of a seasoned national team, Kerr and the players acknowledged that it was merely the first step in their preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics. With more exhibition games on the horizon, Team USA will look to fine-tune their performance and solidify their status as the favorites to bring home the gold medal.
Before Team USA trumped Canada in their exhibition game, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James shared a recent interaction with Obama about the national team. The four-time NBA champion shared more in a video shared by Ben Golliver on X.

Just recently, Obama made a surprise appearance at USA Basketball’s 50th anniversary party, delivering an inspiring 10-minute speech to the assembled Olympians, Hall of Famers, and luminaries. Obama expressed his unwavering support for the team and confidence in their ability to bring home the gold from Paris.
With Obama’s support, James and Team USA will enter the 2024 Olympics as an empowered squad. Add the amount of talent they’re fielding and it only makes sense for the American national team to bring home the gold.
