LeBron James 'wins' worst actor Razzie for 'Space Jam: A New Legacy'

LeBron James is a four-time NBA champion, an 18-time All-Star as well as a four-time league MVP. But his latest distinction will surely define his legacy more than any of that ever could.

The Los Angeles Lakers star won big this week … at the Razzie Awards commemorating the worst in film over the past year. James earned the dishonorable achievement of worst actor for his performance in “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” per Variety. He also won the Razzie for worst screen combo (together with his toon co-stars) while “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was victorious in the worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel category.

Ballislife notes that James joins Dennis Rodman, who earned three for the movie “Double Team” in 1997, as the NBA players who have won Razzies. Shaquille O’Neal was also nominated that same year for his film “Steel.”

Indeed, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was an incorrigible disaster of a movie that made the original 1996 film starring Michael Jordan look like “Citizen Kane.” James’ “Space Jam” has a 4.4/10 rating on IMDB and a brutal 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It also made watching James’ 31-42 Lakers this season seem almost palatable in comparison.

James did not seem to be too bothered by how hideous his movie was. Now he has fitting hardware to forever immortalize his so-called job well done.
