LA Lakers legend Michael Cooper has given his verdict on the team being linked with an NBA veteran.
Two days into free agency, the LA Lakers‘ failure to add a center was one of the big stories to emerge.
General manager Rob Pelinka had described this as a priority, speaking after the team’s first round playoff exit.
Among the names to be linked, Boston Celtics veteran Al Horford is one of the most intriguing options available.
Al Horford is now expected to leave the Boston Celtics amid their desire to rebuild, with Jayson Tatum out injured for next season.
Horford has been linked to the Warriors, and the LA Lakers have also been tipped to steal in to battle for his signature.
Speaking to NBA Today, insider Brian Windhorst said that while retirement is an option, Horford has plenty of interest across the league.
“Golden State Warriors have been very aggressive in trying to bring him in, he fits well anywhere, perfect, but obviously the Lakers are badly in need of a center, so they have been involved with that, too.
“I would expect there’s a decent chance that he continues his career it’s out here on the west coast.”
LA Lakers legend Michael Cooper supports the idea of Al Horford heading to the LA Lakers, pointing out that he could succeed where many others struggle, playing alongside LeBron James.
Cooper told CLNS: “Horford would be a good fit, if they are even considering that. I think that would be a great move, if that was something in the process of being thought about.
“Horford is a great player, he’s a professional, he understands the game inside and out, and he’s a champion.
“If the Lakers are considering him, what a great consideration, he would fit well. I think a lot of people would have a hard time fitting with LeBron, Al Horford wouldn’t be one of them.
“The Lakers are all about winning championships, Al Horford would be a great addition. I think LeBron would be happy with that.”
The LA Lakers have come in for early criticism during free agency to date, with LeBron James also piling on the pressure.
Currently the Lakers’ only signing is Jake LaRavia, while they have lost Dorian Finney-Smith to the Houston Rockets.
