Lonzo Ball posts video in response to Stephen A. Smith’s recent injury claim

While the Chicago Bulls will be without guard Lonzo Ball for the 2023-24 NBA season, making this his second consecutive year missed due to injury, he hasn't lost his sense of humor.

The 25-year-old guard received a cartilage transplant in his left knee in March, a procedure which meant his absence from the court would be extended out through this year.

Ball's injury history has long been a talking point for analysts, but specifically when ESPN's Stephen A. Smith opted to drop his own insight on the situation recently, it drew a bit of attention. Smith stated on ESPN's "First Take" that he's "heard that it's even hard for [Ball] to get up from the sitting position" following his recent knee surgery.

The Bulls guard was quick with a response to these comments, firing back at Smith with a video showing him standing and sitting using only his left leg while asking the analyst who his sources are. Ball proceeded to tell Smith to "stop yapping" and wrapped up the video by saying that he's "coming back."

It's a strong statement by Ball, especially with the 2023-24 NBA season not even underway yet.

Ball has played five seasons in the NBA after being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers as No. 2 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft.

After playing in 52 and 47 games over two years with the Lakers, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans as part of the Anthony Davis deal and proceeded to sign with the Chicago Bulls in 2021-22, playing in 35 games prior to the extended absence due to injury.

Ball's most recent two seasons, one with the Pelicans and one with the Bulls, were his best from a scoring and shooting standpoint. He averaged 14.6 points in 2020-21 in New Orleans and then 13 points per game in 2021-22 with Chicago while shooting a career-best 42.3 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three-point range.
