Los Angeles Lakers Linked to Sensational Trade for Denver Nuggets Star Michael Porter Jr.
Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

At this point, it’s almost a certainty that the Los Angeles Lakers are going to have a new-look roster next season. LeBron James , Anthony Davis, and perhaps Austin Reaves are going to be the main core moving forward, but it now appears that everybody else is fair game.

LA will likely want to bring a big name or two this summer, and at least one NBA executive believes that they should look in the direction of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr.

Los Angeles Lakers Linked to Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr.

Porter played a key role in making sure that the Lakers were going to go home after the first round. The 6-foot-10 small forward averaged 18.8 points on 55.3 percent shooting and 8.4 rebounds, while also knocking down 4.0 triples per game on a dizzying 48.8-percent clip. Needless to say, MPJ killed the Lakers from deep in the opening round.

According to one Eastern Conference GM, this is exactly why LA should seriously consider swooping in on the 25-year-old swingman.

“If they want to get better, that is who they’d go after,” the exec told Sean Deveney Heavy Sports. “They need a gunner who is not afraid to shoot and they’d be much better off if he can be a 3-4 like LeBron, if he is not a size mismatch. A knockdown shooter who creates space, that’s the first step to getting them back to contender status again.”

That actually makes a lot of sense. The question, however, is whether or not Porter is available in the first place. MPJ is currently under contract with the Nuggets through 2027, and it will likely take a substantial trade offer for them to even consider parting ways with him.

Then again, the Nuggets are coming off a failed title defense, so perhaps they could be looking to shake it up this summer. Should Porter suddenly become available, though, the Lakers will certainly have some competition for the former Missouri standout.
