The lowest moments in Heat playoff history is a badge that every fan needs to carry. The fan will carry the low times and the happy times. That is what makes a good fan. The Heat lost big and bad in the Eastern Conference quarterfinal. It leaves a horrible, sour taste in every fan’s mouth.
The score with 2:51 remaining is 135-76, Cavaliers. The pain of the game reminded me of recreational basketball games. The league rules would allow a running clock. They would allow the game to end if the score was over 30 points for more than two quarters. The Heat were never in the series against the Cavaliers.
There’s something wrong with this team. Ira Winderman capped his usual post-game observations saying that this is one of the worst losses in franchise history. It will be blown up in the off-season. Here is my off-season wish list on corrections that need to be made.
The Heat were swept by the Bucks after upsetting them the season before. The Bucks were hungry and ready. After the first game that went into overtime, the Heat were optimistic. Then the Bucks beat Miami 132-98. Miami was never competitive in the series.
The Heat won the 2006 Championship and everyone in Miami was “over the moon.” They had beaten the Bulls 4-2 in the first round in a competitive series. The Bulls played the Heat in the ring ceremony game and wiped the floor with them. Sports analysts were mentioning that the team was in a “Championship hangover.”
Miami fought hard to make the playoffs and faced Chicago in the first round. Chicago was ready for the Heaters and swept them 4-0. Andres Nocioni, Ben Gordon, Kirk Henrich and Luol Deng. Every fan felt the Championship hangover.
The Heat were swept badly by the Hornets. The Heat had Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning and Jamal Mashburn . They have gone through wars with the Knicks and got to the 1997 Eastern Conference finals. The Hornets didn’t look so tough. Baron Davis then carved up the Heat. Derrick Coleman dunked in Game 1 & 2 and taunted the Miami crowd.
The Heat were the #1 seed in the NBA. They had home court advantage throughout the playoffs. They went into the first round series against the Knicks, scared. They fought hard, but lost the series 3-2 on a “cagged” layup by Allan Houston that arguably, took the heart out of every fan in South Florida at one time.
