LSU's NIL Power Move Could Reshape College Football
The Daily Advertiser via Imagn Content Services, LLC

LSU is set to sell jersey patch advertisements for its uniforms, according to a report by NOLA.com. The decision is still pending NCAA approval but expected to be the first of many schools looking to capitalize on a new NIL avenue.

This is part of the post-era of the House Settlement, which calls for revenue sharing with student-athletes for schools who opted in. Those schools can share up to $20.5 million annually with all athletic programs at their discretion.

The NCAA permitted schools to have advertisements on the field during college football games during the 2024 season. Any type of jersey patch would be similar to how the NBA currently operates with major sponsors pouring in multiple millions of dollars per year.

How this will trickle down to the student-athletes, who are being used to model the advertisement, remaining to be seen at this point. Either way, this is another change to the landscape of college athletics. Expect more of the pro sports adoption methods, such as stadium naming rights, individual cleat NIL's and more.

LSU opens the season on the road against Clemson. One non-conference game worthy of a neutral site game will be at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 30 (7:30 p.m. ET on ABC).
