Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are the ‘best offensive duo in NBA history’, boldly claims Celtics legend
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in game 1 away from home, 108-105 in the Western Conference Playoff Finals at the Target Center. Notably, the Mavs star-duo, Luka Doncic , and Kyrie Irving garnered huge praise from the NBA community, various analysts, and fans around the world.

Interestingly, ex- Boston Celtics legend, Paul Pierce also hopped on the Doncic-Irving praise bandwagon. Pierce claimed on “The Undisputed” show that the Mavs star duo, Luka Doncic, and Kyrie Irving are the best offensive duo in NBA history. This was somewhat of an atrocious claim made by Pierce.

Imma take a little step further Skip[Bayless], I've said this a month ago on this show that this [Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving] is the best offensive duo in NBA history. On “The Undisputed Show”, Paul Pierce said,

However, one could argue over this claim as there are offensive duos with a better offensive record in the NBA than Doncic and Irving.

On the sports side of things, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving were at their absolute best against the Timberwolves in Game 1. Doncic dropped 33 points, provided 8 assists, and gathered 6 rebounds whereas his teammate Irving dropped 30 points, provided 4 assists, and gathered 5 rebounds in their game 1 win at the Target Center.

Luka Doncic makes honest admission about his teammate Kyrie Irving’s performance in game 1

Luka Doncic was ecstatic after the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Mavericks now have an advantage entering into the upcoming matchups of this series, owing to Kyrie Irving’s aggressive play. After the match, Luka Doncic was full of admiration for his teammate.

Doncic claimed in the post-match interview that without Irving his Mavs side would be 20 points down in game 1 against the Timberwolves.

He (Kyrie Irving) got us going. Without him, we would probably be down 20 in halftime. So he had us going, I had to help him in the second half a little bit. Luka Doncic said about his teammate, Kyrie Irving

It remains to be seen now how the Mavs star duo perform in game 2 against the Timberwolves. On the contrary, the Timberwolves star man Anthony Edwards had an off night in game 1 against the Mavs, scoring only 19 points, and he will be looking to make amends in the upcoming game 2 matchup on May 24 at the Target Center.
