Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic's second season with the organization ended abruptly April 2 when he suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. Before going down, the 27-year-old Slovenian superstar had posted 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists while shooting 47.6% from the field and 36.6% from beyond the arc.

Doncic did his best to recover and return during the NBA playoffs, but was unable to, and the injury ultimately ended his season.

With Doncic locked in with the Lakers long-term after signing a three-year, $165 million contract extension last offseason, his focus now shifts toward next year as Los Angeles fills out the roster around him.

Doncic has had another busy offseason in his personal life as well, continuing to pour into his foundation, the Luka Doncic Foundation. The youth development nonprofit is focused on transforming young lives through basketball, much in the same way the sport transformed his own.

On Wednesday, in a collaborative post with his foundation, Doncic announced he had decided to fund a new grant program for young athletes called Stay in Play.

"Stay in Play is the Luka Dončić Foundation’s international grant program providing eligible young athletes with one-year, needs-based grants to help cover the costs of staying in sports, with funding capped at a maximum of $25,000 USD per recipient. 176 sports eligible. 10 countries this year. 1 game-changing moment in a kid’s life." the caption read.

The caption also included instructions for how young athletes can apply, along with a deadline of August 20, 2026.

As Doncic continues his mission off the court, his ability on it remains as dominant as ever. Despite appearing in just 64 games last season, he still led the entire NBA with 2,143 points scored, a true testament to just how unstoppable he is on the offensive end. He will look to continue that dominance in his third season with the purple and gold.
