Luka Doncic has one clear request for the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers couldn't keep the foot on the gas as injuries derailed their once-promising season.

Now, they face a crucial offseason amid uncertainty about Austin Reaves and LeBron James.

The only certain thing is that Luka Doncic is the new face of the franchise. As such, general manager Rob Pelinka must surround the former Dallas Mavericks star with a very specific type of players.

According to ESPN insider Dave McMenamin, the Slovenian star has already made one clear demand: He wants an elite big man.

Doncic wants the Lakers to get a big-time center

"Luka's first and foremost desire is an A-list center," the source told McMenamin.

Doncic thrived with rim-protecting/rim-running athletic bigs in Dallas. He led the team to the NBA Finals with Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford anchoring the paint.

Jaxson Hayes has a similar skill set, but it's not on the same level, and Deandre Ayton's inconsistent effort, lack of defensive prowess and face-up game make him a bad fit next to Doncic.

Doncic isn't recruiting LeBron James or Austin Reaves

Per the report, Doncic won't go the extra mile to bring James or Reaves back. While they have a strong relationship, he won't do the Lakers any favors with a recruiting pitch.

"A source close to Doncic told ESPN that Doncic has kept in touch with James and Reaves since the season ended but hasn't pitched either player on returning to L.A," McMenamin wrote.

Even with a flawed roster and all the injuries, the Lakers still won 53 games, and coach JJ Redick has already silenced those who doubted him due to his lack of experience.

They might be just a couple of minor tweaks away from championship contention, and it's time they build their roster around the new face of the franchise.
