Luka Doncic appears to have gotten the message about the importance of his fitness routine.
Doncic has fully dedicated himself to maintaining proper shape during the offseason, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic. Doncic has been “incredibly committed” to his fitness and has already dropped significant weight since the start of the offseason.
In addition, Doncic has spent a month away from on-court work to focus instead on his fitness and his body. That is a change from how the star has handled previous offseasons.
Doncic has already drawn attention this offseason for looking notably slimmer in photos. Apparently that is not a mirage.
Doncic’s fitness has been a long-standing issue and was part of the reason the Dallas Mavericks traded him. Perhaps that lit a fire under him, or perhaps it was the fact that his own coach seemed to lay down a challenge for him at the start of the offseason.
After being traded to the Lakers last season, Doncic played in 28 games and averaged 28.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. If he is seriously committed to his conditioning, it will go a long way in proving the Lakers right in making that trade.
