Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving draw major praise from Mavericks’ new addition

The Dallas Mavericks may not have added another "star-caliber" player this offseason, but with the addition of former Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams and incoming rookie Dereck Lively, among others, there's plenty of new talent in the mix.

Williams should prove to be an interesting addition capable of taking advantage of the attention stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will draw from opponents, and he seems excited about his new opportunity.

Williams recently joined "The Old Man and the Three" podcast with JJ Redick and discussed being able to team up with Doncic and Irving while offering praise to both players (h/t Hoops Rumors). When discussing Doncic, he highlighted the young guard's ability as a passer and playmaker for others.

“Whenever you are open, he is going to find you,” Williams said. “I am excited just because he brings so much pressure and attention to himself. He does a good job of getting others involved. His growth and his next step is understanding that as much as that happens he also has to power others to play their games as well.”

Williams mentioned Irving's ability to knock down tough shots while also pointing to the ability to play off the ball as well.

“Kyrie has been in this league long enough that he knows how to make a tough shot and also get off the ball,” Williams told Redick. “And Luka does a good job of seeing the full court from the beginning.”

It's likely that Williams should jump in and immediately see a big role with the Mavericks, and could even wind up as their No. 3 scoring option if he can take advantage of the attention bound for Doncic and Irving. If that pans out the way most expect it to, don't be surprised if Williams puts together a season that's far and away the best of his career.
