The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies by a score of 117-112 on Friday night, a game that included a hot shooting performance and a big game from superstar guard/forward Luka Doncic.
A noticeably slimmed-down Doncic nailed 14-of-27 shots including 6-of-15 from three-point range giving Lakers fans visions of an MVP caliber season in Tinseltown.
The Lakers overcame a 42-24 deficit on the scoreboard in the second quarter by winning the game's final two quarters en route to their fourth win of the season.
Doncic joined Lakers legend Kobe Bryant with an incredible scoring feat that led to questions about whether he has what it takes to make history this season.
Doncic was asked a loaded question about the Lakers all-time great, who died in a January 26, 2020 helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
Doncic joined the five-time NBA championship winning Lakers great with a string of 40-plus point performances.
"You're the first Laker to average 45 for three straight games since Kobe back in 2007...Is there a number, like, is 40 points per game a sustainable goal for you, number for you?" Doncic was asked.
"Ah, that's gonna be tough, but like I say, you know, sometimes they're gonna double me more, sometimes I won't be able to score that much," Doncic said.
"I had some, three or four shots that were crazier shots than I felt like doing, but they were terrible shots, so I gotta, like I said before I gotta work on that," Doncic said.
He was told that his teammate Austin Reaves said that about his shots, to which he had a cheeky response.
"Austin's stupid," Doncic replied.
Luka Doncic on if he can average 40 points per game this season:

“That’s going to be tough …”
I followed up by saying that Austin Reaves told me he thinks he could.

Reaves and Doncic combined for 65 points on the night as both players scored more points individually than any Grizzlies player.
Doncic scored 44 on the heels of 49 and 43 point games, constituting a 45.3 points per game average over the last three contests.
Doncic and Reaves' chemistry is off the charts, and the Lakers are winning ballgames.
The biggest question on most Lakers fans' minds now is whether it will continue when LeBron James returns from injury, or whether the two young stars will have to take a back seat to James when he finally makes his way back into LA's lineup.
