Luka Doncic Passes Kobe Bryant in Historic NBA Record

Many consider the Lakers’ star, Luka Doncic, to be one of the modern-day NBA greats, and this became clearer recently after Doncic left even Kobe Bryant behind to pocket a noteworthy NBA record.

Doncic reached 15,000 career regular-season points on March 31, becoming the third-youngest player in the NBA to reach the 15000 mark, at 27 years and 31 days old, besting Kobe Bryant (27 years and 136 days) and Wilt Chamberlain (27 years and 156 days).

An X update from NBA Base highlighted the stats, along with revealing that just Doncic is bested by LeBron James and Kevin Durant in this list. ‘King James’ accomplished the feat at 25 years and 79 days, while Kevin Durant did it at 26 years and 78 days.

The historic moment occurred when the Lakers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 127-113. The win gave the team its 50th victory this season. Doncic needed 33 points to reach 15,000 before heading into the game. He marked the milestone with the help of a free throw in the 3rd quarter.

After the game, Luka shrugged off the milestone talks. When asked about passing Bryant and Chamberlain, he kept his focus strictly on the team. “If you don’t win, it doesn’t really mean anything,” he said. He also dismissed the personal MVP discussion. He stated he has been playing brilliantly, and his main focus is on winning the games over personal awards.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick heavily praised Doncic after the match.“I think Luka has had as good of a month as anybody that I can remember in the modern NBA, at least since I’ve been part of it,” Redick said.

However, the 15000-point feat isn’t the only one that the Lakers’ No. 77 has accomplished this season.

A Historic Season Filled with Records for Luka Doncic

This 15,000-point record is just another page of what an extraordinary season Luka is having.

He set the new single-season mark for three-pointers made. He passed D’Angelo Russell’s previous record of 226 and reached over 232 by mid-March, and also scored 600 points in March. This set a new franchise record, surpassing  Kobe Bryant’s 578 points from March 2006.

Doncic is only the second player ever to score 600 points in March, joining Michael Jordan, who did it in 1987. He is one of just 10 players in the history of the NBA to reach 600 points in any single month. He also became the first Laker ever to record 2,000 points, 500 assists, and 100 steals in a single season.

Doncic is leading the current season with 33.8 points per night. He stands alone as the only player averaging at least 30 points and 100 steals this season. Reaching 15,000 points is not the peak but another chapter of Doncic’s growing legacy.

What other records do you think he will accomplish this season?
