The Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to face off against the Dallas Mavericks in a highly-anticipated matchup at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night.

While this would typically be a standard Western Conference regular-season matchup, this particular contest holds some serious weight.

Earlier this month, the Lakers and Mavericks turned the NBA world upside down with a blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis.

Doncic made it very clear that he had no desire to leave Dallas, but Mavericks leadership felt it was time to move on from the 25-year-old franchise centerpiece.

"I thought I’d spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship," Doncic wrote in his farewell statement to the Mavericks fanbase.

Now, Doncic will face off against the team he played for through the first six seasons of his NBA career.

During Tuesday's episode of "First Take," ESPN's Stephen A. Smith predicted that Doncic will be out to "hurt feelings" against the franchise that spurned him.

"This is the first time he's seeing them since it happened," Smith said. "Jason Kidd is going to be in the building. [General manager] Nico Harrison is going to be in the building... I think [Luka's] gonna come out there tonight and look to hurt people's feelings."

Doncic is fresh off his best game as a Laker so far, recording 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in Saturday night's primetime win over the Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, the Mavericks suffered a blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

Tonight's highly-anticipated matchup will tipoff at 10 p.m. EST.

Doncic will return to American Airlines Center for the first time when he and the Lakers travel to Dallas for another matchup against the Mavericks on April 9.
