Luka Dončić has been a spectacle since entering the league in 2018, and his superb all-around skillset has made for must-see television during the Mavericks' run in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
While Dončić is an elite scorer, he's also proven capable of doing everything for his team and showcases pinpoint accuracy on a nightly basis. His passing leaves fans in awe, and amid the Mavericks' playoff run, Dončić hilariously evaluated his performance by stating he'd "be a pretty good quarterback," as ESPN's Tim MacMahon detailed.
"Obviously, I'm not fast enough to push the pace," Doncic said earlier this postseason, "but my passes are faster than feet. I think with my vision, I can do those passes. ... I know [my teammates are] going to run, so I just try to [find] them. I think I could be a pretty good quarterback, honestly."
Kyrie Irving was among Dončić's Mavericks teammates to echo a similar sentiment and commended his abilities as a passer.
"It's like a receiver and a quarterback. He throws perfect passes. They're literally right in your hands," Irving said.
Dončić has always thrived as a passer, but he's put together a career year in 2023-24. The 25-year-old averages 9.8 assists per game, a full assist higher than his next-closest full season. Even while thriving as a scorer during the Mavericks' playoff run over the first 15 games, he's still averaged 9.0 assists per game and has made the lives of Irving, along with big men such as Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively a lot easier.
The Mavericks are one win away from a trip to the 2024 NBA Finals and a date with the Boston Celtics. If Dončić and the Mavs can complete the sweep of the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 4 on Tuesday, they'll get a nice break before the Finals get underway on June 6.
