Luka Doncic Shares Vlog From Lakers’ Slovenia Trip

Earlier this offseason, Luka Doncic hosted his Los Angeles Lakers teammates in his home country of Slovenia for a minicamp. With some many new players on the roster, it was an opportunity for the team to get to know each other and build some chemistry ahead of the 2026-27 season.

On his new YouTube channel, Doncic posted a vlog with some awesome behind-the-scenes access from the trip.

“I mean, obviously to see Slovenia first,” Doncic said at the beginning of the vlog when asked about the purpose of the trip. “Obviously we spend so much time together in the season and with so many new guys, to get to know each other and see what everybody likes. And then just play basketball, play some golf, visit around Slovenia. It should be nice.”

After flying in from L.A. to meet Doncic, the trip began with a team workout where they played a game with a yoga ball before switching to an actual basketball. Within the scrimmage, Doncic elbowed new teammate Collin Sexton in the mouth. Sexton was bleeding, but he didn’t want to come out of the game, which Doncic appreciated as he dapped up his fellow guard.

The Lakers then visited the Ljubljana Castle, where everyone was impressed with the views. Fans and workers also loved seeing Lakers players there, and one of them even taught Jarred Vanderbilt how to say ‘thank you’ in Slovenian.

During a river cruise, fans were out to see and meet the Lakers and hopefully get some signed merchandise. At one point, a Lakers player threw a signed shirt that fell in the water and did not make it to land. A fan attempted to pick it up out of the water, but his friend hilariously pushed him in, which got the players to crack up.

The Lakers also took a trip to Lake Bled, where they met Slovenian Olympic rower Janez Klemencic, who taught them about his sport. Doncic said he fell out of the kayak a couple of times, and his team ended up taking home third place in the race while Austin Reaves’ finished second and the team led by Vanderbilt and Jake LaRavia won it all.

The competition continued on the golf course, where Reaves naturally thrived. He was also interviewed by a Slovenian news outlet and revealed what he learned while spending time in Doncic’s country.

“Just the love and respect that he has for the country and the country has for him,” Reaves said. “Everywhere we’ve been, there’s been people lined up to see him. It’s awesome to be here and see kind of where he was raised and everything he embodies.”

Players also got a chance to visit the court Doncic grew up playing at and remodeled in 2021, and then they took a bike ride around his city. As was the case for the entire trip, that bike ride naturally turned into a competition with Dalton Knecht appearing to take home the victory.

The trip then ended with another workout on the basketball court and some more friendly competitions between the players.

Luka Doncic taking leadership role seriously

It is clear that Doncic is the undisputed leader of the Lakers and is taking that role seriously, as he spoke about at the end of the vlog.

“I think basketball-wise, just trying to improve every day and trying to be a leader,” Doncic said. “Five years ago, I was in my second or third year in the league and I wasn’t the leader I was supposed to be. So I think the leadership is an important part for me now.”
