Luka Doncic suggests he will sign supermax extension

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic had a disappointing end to his 2020-21 NBA season when he and his teammates were eliminated from the postseason tournament via a Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

Along with confirming he plans to participate in Olympic qualifiers with the Slovenian national team, the 22-year-old hinted Monday he is willing and eager to sign a supermax extension this summer.

"I think you know the answer," Doncic said when asked about putting pen to paper, per TJ Macias of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I’m not going to lie to you — I think you know the answer."

Agreeing to the extension as soon as possible greatly benefits all involved. Dallas will be locking down a likely future Most Valuable Player Award finalist who averaged 35.7 points across seven playoff games this spring for a handful of years to come, and ESPN's Bobby Marks explained that Doncic is set to earn somewhere around $201.5 million via the five-year extension.

Signing Doncic could, however, ultimately lead to the Mavericks trading unicorn big man Kristaps Porzingis this offseason.
