Luka Doncic’s Kyrie Irving Admission Surfaces After Lakers Trade

It has been two years since the Dallas Mavericks made the bold move to pair Kyrie Irving with Luka Doncic. While the trade was initially met with skepticism due to Irving’s up and down tenure with the Brooklyn Nets, the gamble seemed to pay off. In their first full season together, the duo led the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals, only to fall short against the Boston Celtics in five games.

Given their success, it was a shock to many when news broke out that the Mavericks were trading Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month, officially ending what many believed was a championship-caliber partnership.

Just a few weeks after the trade, a newly surfaced clip from a recent Doncic interview with Overtime has been making waves online. The 24-minute interview was recorded just before Doncic's trade and features the five-time All-Star answering hypothetical questions during his Jordan Brand shoot.

One particular moment from the sit-down has caught fans' attention. When asked which skill he would steal from another NBA player, Doncic responded with no hesitation.

"Kyrie handles," Doncic admitted. "Shot-making. I think he’s one of the best shooters."

Though their time as teammates was cut short, it’s clear that mutual admiration remains between the two superstars.

Despite now playing for rival Western Conference teams, Doncic and Irving have maintained a close relationship and were recently seen sharing a friendly exchange after the Lakers’ win over the Mavericks on Tuesday night.

Doncic had a slow start with the Lakers, but appears to be finding his rhythm with back-to-back strong performances against the Denver Nuggets and Mavericks. Meanwhile, Irving has been on an absolute tear, recording five 30-point games since the trade.
