Luka Doncic’s record-breaking form continues despite loss to Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak on Thursday night, defeating a depleted Los Angeles Lakers squad, 126-106, despite a sensational performance from Luka Doncic.

Doncic erupted for 29 points in the first half and matched his season-high with 45 by the final buzzer. The Slovenian star shot 14-of-27 from the field, connecting on seven three-pointers while making 10-of-12 free throws.

He also pulled down 11 rebounds, dished out three assists and contributed defensively with two steals and a block. In the process, he joined Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as the only Lakers in franchise history to record at least 45 points, 10 rebounds, and five made threes in a single game, per the NBA.

Despite Doncic’s heroics, Milwaukee remained in control for most of the contest. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way with 24 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, just missing a triple-double. Brook Lopez added 23 points on an efficient 8-of-9 shooting night, while Damian Lillard and Kevin Porter Jr. each chipped in 22.

Lillard also contributed 10 assists and six rebounds, while Porter provided a spark off the bench, delivering his production in just 17 minutes. The Bucks’ second unit outscored the Lakers' reserves 45-20, a key factor in the victory.

Austin Reaves stepped up for Los Angeles, finishing with 28 points, eight rebounds and three assists, but the Lakers struggled to generate consistent offense outside of him and Doncic. Only three Lakers scored in double figures, with rookie Dalton Knecht adding 10 points in 21 minutes.

The Lakers were without LeBron James, who missed his second straight game due to a left groin strain, while Jaxson Hayes and Rui Hachimura were also sidelined. The loss drops Los Angeles to fourth in the Western Conference at 40-24, while Milwaukee, also sitting fourth in the East, improved to 37-28.

Head coach JJ Redick confirmed James, Hayes and Hachimura had returned to California and would not play in Friday’s road matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Their status remains day-to-day ahead of Sunday’s home game against the Phoenix Suns, the start of a five-game homestand.
