All-Star Weekend is just three weeks away. The Three-Point Shootout, Skills Challenge and Slam Dunk Contest will take center stage Feb. 1 4at Intuit Dome. But one name won't be on the dunk contest roster in the Los Angeles Clippers' home arena.
Mac McClung, the three-time defending champion, confirmed Saturday he won't compete this year. Before signing with the Indiana Pacers last year, the 27-year-old made history by becoming the first player ever to three-peat in the competition.
The milestone it represented tied him with Nate Robinson, who also has three total dunk contest victories, but they were not consecutive. Robinson won those crowns between 2006 and 2010.
For now, the Pacers guard has no intention to surpass Robinson, as he shut down the four-peat talk in a video with social media user @TeamVkTry. He said, “Um, I've prepared for it for the last couple months, but I've decided that I'm probably just gonna take this year off.”
Following his announcement, Chuck Millan announced the bold decision on X, calling McClung "arguably the best dunk contest dunker of all time."

The Virginia native, however, didn't leave fans completely empty-handed. He'd been prepping for two months. "But since we prepared for it Chuck, I'll be releasing the dunks we came up with after the contest," McClung replied to Millan.
After the Pacers waived him following a disappointing stint, he landed with the Windy City Bulls in the G League, where he is averaging 27 points per game. Given the impressive form, it is very surprising to see him skip the dunk contest after keeping it relevant over the past three years.
